HOUSE RESOLUTION RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT A TRAFFIC SURVEY ON A PORTION OF WAMPANOAG TRAIL IN THE CITY OF EAST PROVIDENCE

WHEREAS, The Wampanoag Trail, also known as East Shore Expressway, is a major state highway passing through the city of East Providence; and

WHEREAS, Said highway is heavily traveled, often at high rates of speed; and

WHEREAS, There have recently been serious accidents occurring from a point north of the intersection of the Wampanoag Trail and Mink Road southeastery to the town of Barrington/city of East Providence boundary line; and

WHEREAS, The safety of the citizens of the city of East Providence on state highways passing through the city is of paramount concern to the city of East Providence city council, now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to conduct a traffic study at the above designated area to determine whether or not traffic signals at the intersection of Wampanoag Trail and Forbes Street would enhance the safety on the Wampanoag Trail and further to determine whether or not designation of the above mentioned area as a reduced speed zone would enhance the safety of the highway; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the secretary of state be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the director of the department of transportation.
