HOUSE RESOLUTION RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THAT THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF MAKING AN OPTIONAL FLAT RATE STATEWIDE TOLL CALLING SERVICE PLAN AVAILABLE TO RHODE ISLAND TELEPHONE USERS

WHEREAS, The information highway is rapidly becoming a necessity for all Rhode Islanders, increasing the need to make many long distance telephone calls; and

WHEREAS, The explosion to the Internet and Worldwide Web will create additional calling volume; and

WHEREAS, The options currently available to Rhode Islanders providing only one, two or four hour plans will soon be inadequate to meet the state's constantly growing needs; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests that the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission study the feasibility of making an optional flat rate statewide toll calling service plan available to Rhode Island telephone users; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Public Utilities Commission shall report its findings to the House of Representatives on or before June 30, 1996; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Chairman of the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission.
