WHEREAS, On February 18, 1936, Robert H. Casey was born in Providence, the son of Hugh Casey and May Healey Casey. He grew up in South Providence and attended Tyler School. During his youth he was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul where he was selected to be a page for Bishop Francis Keough. After graduating from Tyler School, he entered LaSalle Academy and graduated in the Class of 1953. At the age of seventeen, when the call to arms came for the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, After his discharge from the Marine Corps, he enrolled in Bryant College and graduated with a degree in accounting. With his degree in hand, he began his governmental service and for thirty-three years he worked for the United States Government in various capacities. Although he retired from the Social Security Administration, he was loaned to other investigative units of the government for accounting examinations involving white collar crimes; and
WHEREAS, During this period of governmental service, he met and married Margaret Meade, and they have two sons, Robert and Brian. After his marriage, Bob and his wife lived in Cranston and when the children finished their schooling, the family moved to Narragansett; and
WHEREAS, As he did in South Providence and Cranston, Bob became very much a part of the Narragansett community. He became active in the Lions Club and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of South County. Recognizing the problems of law and order in local communities, he enrolled in a police training program and has become a volunteer "Crime Stopper"; and
WHEREAS, If one quality stands out in Bob Casey, it is his loyalty to his family, his church, his Marine Corps, his South Providence and his friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this senate of the state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby salutes Robert H. Casey on the occasion of his 60th birthday and declares February 18, 1996 to be Robert H. Casey Day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the secretary of state be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Robert H. Casey.
