HOUSE RESOLUTION RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO APPOINT A SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS OF A COVER-UP BY CERTAIN CITY OF WARWICK OFFICIALS

WHEREAS, The recent investigation and murder trial involving a member of the Warwick Police Department has left the community shaken in its confidence in the police department and has unfairly sullied the reputation of the many fine officers in the department; and

WHEREAS, Recent information has come to light suggesting a cover-up in the investigation of the murder of Victoria Cushman at the highest level of the Police Department and involving several high-ranking officers; and

WHEREAS, Only a full and thorough investigation of the alleged cover-up will lift the black cloud hanging over the department and restore the Warwick Police Department to its rightful place as one of the finest police units in the state; and

WHEREAS, Only a full and thorough investigation of the alleged cover-up will ensure that individuals who may have tried to impede the investigation into the murder case are brought to justice for their actions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives calls on the Attorney General to assign a special investigator to probe the allegations of a cover-up in the murder investigation and to pursue whatever action is deemed necessary and appropriate in regard to any and all individuals who may have been involved in such actions; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the secretary of state be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Attorney General Jeffrey Pine.
