WHEREAS, Our retired teachers' lives span monumental changes ranging from the Great Depression, World War II and the social turmoil coupled with tremendous technological advances in the last three decades; and
WHEREAS, Retired teachers take pride in stressing civic responsibility and promoting individual, family and community values; and
WHEREAS, Retired teachers have worked to provide a brighter future for all Americans by advocating better health care, encouraging the continuance of education throughout ones life, and contributing to the expansion of economic opportunity and stability through the education of America's work force; and
WHEREAS, Retired teachers in Rhode Island and across the country are to be commended for their significant lifetime contributions which have positively and significantly impacted the community and society as a whole; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations does hereby proclaim April 1, 1998 as Retired Teachers' Day in the State of Rhode Island and encourage all citizens to join us in recognizing this very important day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. M. Frances Campbell.
