S E N A T E    R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING DR. GERALD "JAY" FONTAINE ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM C.C.R.I. AFTER 30 YEARS AS CHAIRMAN OF THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, Dr. Gerald D. "Jay" Fontaine graduated from Providence College in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts, Rhode Island College with an M.S. in School Psychology in 1965 and a CAGS in Psychology in 1970. He also received his Ph.D in Psychology from the University of Sarasota in 1972 and attended Menninger Foundation for his Post Doctoral Internship in 1975; and

WHEREAS, He has a wealth of training experiences, including an internship at Bradley Hospital as part of his Masters program, therapy supervision as part of the CAGS program at the Institute of Mental Health and at the Institute of Living as part of his doctoral internship, 220 hours of group therapy training at the Boston Institute for Group Psychotherapy, 160 hours of hypnosis and psychotherapy training at the Harvard University and Beth Israel Hospital, diagnostic testing and psychotherapy for pain patients at St. Joseph's Hospital, and 6 months of post doctoral internship on psychophysiological and anxiety disorders; and

WHEREAS, Jay has also been the School Psychologist for the Cranston School Department, Consulting Psychologist of Mental Health Services of Cranston, Johnston, and Northwestern Rhode Island, and is currently on the Board of Examiners, Psychology, for the Department of Health, Consulting Psychologist for Disability Determination Services, Consulting Psychologist for Vocational Rehabilitation, member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Staff for Psychiatry, and has served as the Chairman of the Psychology Department at Community College of Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, He is certified by the National Register of Health Providers of Psychology, the Biofeedback Society of New England, the Biofeedback Society of America, and as a school psychologist and a State of Rhode Island psychologist and he is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Rhode Island Psychological Association and the Biofeedback Society of New England; and

WHEREAS, Jay has always displayed a readiness to assist others, whether it be a client in his therapy office, a student in the classroom, or a colleague in higher education or in the healing arts, in a kind, insightful, and caring manner, as further manifestation of his compassion, patience, perseverance, intellect, affability, and kind-heartiness; and

WHEREAS, Jay had the good fortune to meet and marry the former Joan Kennedy, a primary school teacher in the Johnston School Department, and together they have enjoyed 33 years of married life, including having three wonderful children who are following in public service career established by their proud parents. Kevin, age 32, is a school psychologist in the Johnston School Department,; Jill Souza, age 29, is married, with 1 child; and is a 5th grade teacher in the Johnston School Department; and Amy, age 26, is an early childhood teacher specialist in the Cranston School Department; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Dr. Gerald D. "Jay" Fontaine on his retirement after 30 years of outstanding service with the Psychology Department at C.C.R.I., notably serving with distinction for 21 years as its Chairman, and wishes him many more years of health, happiness; and success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dr. Gerald D. "Jay" Fontaine.
