WHEREAS, John Ruggieri, Jr. is well-known and well-regarded in the town of Barrington for his interest in the community and service to his town; and
WHEREAS, John earned a fine reputation as a talented and respected banker throughout a distinguished 30-year career. Three years ago he retired from Shawmut Bank, where he served as vice president; and
WHEREAS, a Barrington resident since 1954, John and his wife, Irene, have raised four successful sons -- John III, Paul, Steven, and James -- who carry on the Ruggieri legacy of hard work and exemplary character. Their achievements are a testament to the loving upbringing and solid values which characterized the Ruggieri home; and
WHEREAS, John and Irene are enjoying the rewards of a growing family, delighting in the growth and accomplishments of their four grandchildren: John IV, Kyle, Julie and Danielle; and
WHEREAS, John has lived up to his belief in the value of public service, contributing to the quality of life in his town as elected official. In 1990 he was elected to his first term on the Barrington Town Council, which he served until December 7, 1992. In 1996, he threw his hat in the ring again and was elected to a second term on the Town council. John was sworn in on December 2, the day his colleagues selected him to lead the council as President; and
WHEREAS, on July 6, John Ruggieri, Jr. will step down from the Barrington Town Council. The residents of Barrington, the Barrington Republican Town Committee and John's colleagues on the Barrington Town council owe him a debt of gratitude for his dedication to the town and for leadership that has been marked by integrity, responsiveness, and an abiding concern for the welfare of his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence hereby honors the accomplishments of John Ruggieri, Jr. and congratulates him for his exceptional service to the Town of Barrington; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to John Ruggieri, Jr.
