H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE UNITED STATES

WHEREAS, In 1776, after a fierce revolution and liberation from the King of England, a great country was born. Its history has been marked by Civil War and World Wars, but today the United States of America stands for freedom, democracy, and the "pursuit of happiness"; and

WHEREAS, During these wars, millions of brave men and women have answered our country's call, defending our freedom from all who may endanger it. Some of them made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy these precious rights; and

WHEREAS, These American patriots have embodied traits such as sacrifice, bravery, fierce dedication, and many hardships showing us that our freedom comes at a cost, a cost that these great people were willing to pay; and

WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars shows the same loyalty and dedication in serving all America's veterans and their families since being founded in 1899 by Spanish American War Veterans; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby proclaims that the year 1999 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and urges all Rhode Islanders to proudly display our United States Flag and participate in all events honoring the VFW and all that it stands for; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to John Sivo, Department Adjutant of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
