WHEREAS, The knowledge of mathematics is an integral component to the future of our highly technical society; and
WHEREAS, In a world that is becoming increasingly dependent upon technology, a well-rounded education in mathematics is necessary to foster the growth and prosperity of our nation; and
WHEREAS, For many mathematicians, teaching math is an art with various rhythms and poetic stanzas which make learning fun and easy; and
WHEREAS, An understanding of mathematics is essential to technical areas of study, including the sciences, engineering, business and economics. In addition, mathematics also is an integral part of ordinary daily life in the home, on the job and in recreational activities; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations proclaims April as Mathematics Awareness Month; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Joint Policy Board for Mathematics at 1529 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, D.C., 20036.
