H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CREATING A PERMANENT STANDING HOUSE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY

SECTION 1. There is hereby created a Permanent Standing House Committee on Education Accountability consisting of five (5) members which shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House, no more than four (4) shall be from the same political party.

The committee shall review the educational performance and progress of the public schools of the state. The committee shall review education related data including, but not limited to, student performance, school and school district strategic planning, and educational expenditures. The committee shall recommend policy initiatives to the general assembly. The committee will not review nor vote on legislation.

All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, documentary and otherwise, to the committee and its agents as is deemed necessary or desirable by the committee to facilitate the purposes of this act.

The Joint Committee on Legislative Services may provide such funds as it deems necessary to carry out the purposes of this committee.

The speaker of the house is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable staff and quarters and the Rules of the House (Rule 30A) are hereby amended by adding the Permanent Standing House Committee on Education Accountability.

SECTION 2. This resolution shall take effect upon passage.
