WHEREAS, From 1663, when the Rhode Island Charter was incorporated, the Rhode Island General Assembly alternated their sessions between Providence and Newport; and
WHEREAS, The last session under the two state house system was in May, 1900, and in January, 1901 the General Assembly began meeting at the new state house in Providence; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the last meeting under the two state house system, this general assembly of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations shall meet in Newport at the Old Colony House on May 4, 2000; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to John B. Harwood, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Paul S. Kelly, Majority Leader of the Rhode Island Senate.
