S E N A T E     R E S O L U T I O N

CREATING A SPECIAL SENATE COMMISSION TO STUDY THE LICENSURE OF INDUSTRIAL FORKLIFT OPERATORS AND TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS THEREFOR

RESOLVED, That a special Senate Commission be and the same is hereby created consisting of fifteen (15) members; three (3) of whom shall be members of the Senate, not more than two (2) from the same political party to be appointed by the Majority Leader; one (1) of whom shall be the Director of the Department of Labor and Training or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the Chairperson of the Rhode Island Board of Hoisting Engineers or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the President of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the President of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Retail Trade Federation or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the President of the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America Inc. or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the President of the Safety Association of Rhode Island Inc. or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the President of the Employers' Association or his or her designee; one (1) of whom shall be the President of the Rhode Island Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association or his or her designee; and two (2) of whom shall be public representatives of the business community to be appointed by the Senate Majority Leader.

The purpose of said commission shall be to study the need for the Licensure of Industrial forklift operators and to make recommendations for improvements therefor.

Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at the call of the Senate Majority Leader and organize and shall select from among the legislators a chairperson. Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment.

The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services.

All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution.

The Senate Majority Leader is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the Senate on or before May 14, 2000 and said commission shall expire on July 16, 2000.
