WHEREAS, Closing all public schools on election day will help to increase voter turnout; and
WHEREAS, The importance of elections will be demonstrated to our youth by the closing of schools on election day; and
WHEREAS, Our youth will be able to assist pole workers and will learn, first hand, valuable civic lessons; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests the commissioner of the Rhode Island Department of Education to close all Rhode Island public schools on election day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the commissioner of the Department of Education.
