J O I N T     R E S O L U T I ON

CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE THE STATUS OF HEALTH CARE AND HMO LIABILITY IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created consisting of fourteen (14) members: seven (7) of whom shall be from the house of representatives, not more than five (5) from the same political party, to be appointed by the speaker; seven (7) of whom shall be from the senate, not more than five (5) from the same political party, to be appointed by the majority leader.

The purpose of said commission shall be to study all aspects relating to the status of health care and HMO liability in the state of Rhode Island.

Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at the call of the speaker of the house and organize and shall select from among the legislators a chairperson. Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment.

Members of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services.

Every person or entity, including departments and agencies of the state, or any employee or agent thereof, shall cooperate and assist the commission, and its agents, as it deems necessary in order to facilitate the purposes of this resolution, including without limitation furnishing advice, information and/or documentation to the commission and appearing at hearings at the request of the commission.

The speaker is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the commission shall report is findings and recommendations to the general assembly on or before January 25, 2000, and said commission shall expire on March 25, 2000.
